The Alchemist’s Catch

Original artwork.

Oil on canvas, 61 x 76 cm. Framed in a black-gold-finish tray frame, 64 x 80 cm.

This painting was inspired by the Black-faced Cormorants that are so familiar around the beaches of Tasmania. The Cormorants led by instinct and prowess dive into deep waters catching fish. In some Indigenous cultures, the black faced cormorants are linked to the transportation of souls from one world to another and are symbolic of Internal transformation and bringing darkness into light. The fish may represent a soul and the journey of transformation.
